[Thought] The King: Eternal Monarch

Super duper double disappointed with the drama. It was even more disappointing than Vagabond.

She penned down my thought exactly word-by-word.

I have been constantly watching, without fail because I was hoping to see if the drama would get better every episode. But every new episode left me feeling bored and flat. Nothing is hooking me to the story.

This is obviously a lazy review, but that’s how I feel watching the drama.

Crime-Thriller I Watched during MCO.

Memorist

Ever since the first episode of Memorist, I was into a crime thriller genre and stuck quite a while. Memorist was a currently-airing drama at that time, hence it was very torturing to wait for 2 episodes every week. It was one of my March list, though it started almost at the end of the month. I have been spending my MCO waiting for new episodes, very patiently, and at the same time watched Watcher and Within Lies in between to curb my thirst from the thrilling sensation of what’s gonna happen next.

Memorist’s story line was so good
that it didn’t occur to me that
it was actually a remake
from a webtoon.

Yoo Seung Ho was never on the top of my list, but apparently I have been enjoying a lot of his drama lately. This drama keeps me on my toes, even until the end of the final episode. It was so full of plot twist that you will keep doubting your guesses. As much as it is a thriller, Dong Baek and the gang manage to keep the tone of the drama comedic and make it easy to watch.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Verdict: It’s definitely a must watch. If I were to binge the whole series, I bet I can finish it in two nights.

Watcher was already a year old. When it was released and known that Seo Kang Joon starred in the drama, I was so ready to hit the play button and enjoy in his new role. Unfortunately the first 3 episodes was so hard to get through. A year after, I forced myself to get passed the 3rd episode and its pace started to pick up on the 4th. I have to admit that Watcher is no where near comedic, and the plot is quite confusing in the beginning. As usual, every crime drama’s opening will start with a case that already happened and police was soldiered to the scene. (I think that’s what happened, it was so long ago and I only restarted watching again at episode 3 – 내 기억이 잘 안놔..)

아무튼..

Watcher is about a team of police officer who look over the police officers. In a simpler term, they will take charge of the case if it involves corruption within these justice keepers. I enjoyed the drama so much because of the trust issue and bad cops vs good cops things in the series. But most important of all, are good cops really good cops? You will question yourself in every episode. Everything about the drama is so mysterious, and nothing can be taken at a face value. Through out the 16 episodes, I can never tell if they were all on the same side or they are getting on with it just to serve their agenda.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Verdict: If you are into a slow-burning crime thriller drama, this will be for you. It’s a 4 because it was so hard to pass episode 4 haha!

It’s another slow-burning crime thriller from k-Dramaland. I was looking forward to watch another Lee Min Ki’s performance after his successful screening time in The Beauty Inside and Because It’s My First Time. Though I was a fan since 2007, after I watched his sweet noona-romance in Dalja’s Spring. I did enjoy TIB and BIMFT just as much too.

Basically The Lies Within is a political driven crime thriller. It’s another hard-to-pass-through-until-episode-3 type. What I did, I watched it while I was doing work, chores or anything at all to make sure I got it going. It was a bit hard to focus the entire time ’cause it is bit dark. There is still minimal comical banter, which is pretty common. Enough suspense and a very good plot. Although I figure many were taken aback with its unexpected ending, the person who were behind the crime.

I would say Lee Yoo Young’s acting was top-notch. As a daughter who lost her father in a suspicious car accident and a wife whose husband went missing during the incident; and then was pushed to save his kidnapped husband with threats that has bled her dry — she expressed her desperation very very well.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Verdict: If you LOVE watcher, I am pretty sure you will like this one too. A bit heavy for my preference though.

March watch-list [Updated]

These two dramas are just lovely. I wasn’t planning to fall in love so hard and invested so much emotions, but I did.

[UPDATED]

When the Weather is Fine (Nalssi-ga johemyeon, chajakagessoyo)

See. Even the title is poetic..

Always secretly a fan of Seo Kang Joon. He might not fall in the super-good looking category like Lee Min Ho or Gong Yoo, but he is definitely the boy-next-door kinda guy. The one that not necessarily popular in a world-scale, but subtly attractive to many girls in town. In which I find very suitable with the character he plays in this drama.

By the look of the poster, I can instantly guess that it is going to be a very mundane storyline about how two leads just naturally have their own story crafted together. Nothing major. Nothing fancy. Just a warm and cozy atmosphere amidst the piling snow. And that’s exactly how the drama feels like.

Although, at times, I did find some of the scenes are quite boring, I just can’t get enough of the tone of the drama. It’s a mix of both Little Forest’s Korean and J-Movie, except that it’s a book version instead of food. Sometimes I can just listen to the audio to silence the noise of the outside world. If you are looking for a calming and soothing drama, without any expectation on the plot, it is worth checking-out. Especially if you are a melo-kinda-person. But not if you are looking for something to cry your heart out, this is not the place.

Hi Bye, Mama!

Typical of me, to drop almost all drama right about the last 2 episodes before it finished. This drama is no different. I have been following Hi Bye Mama since it’s 1st episode first aired. But as weeks passed by, new drama started to air, with such shame, I am still at episode 14. As much as I wanted to say I love the story, I slowly get distracted with more thrilling episodes of Yoo Seung Ho kicking bad asses in Memorist. Therefore I will reserve my actual comment on how I feel about this drama as a whole.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a sweet, family genre drama, this is the one for you. You might want to prepare a few ply of tissues cause your eyes will get wet once in a while, when you least expected.
